Don’t you find that to be true? From second grade on I wanted my very own dog. It was this dog that lived in my heart and mind. I used to draw pictures of it all the time. It was my “go to” picture whenever any teacher would say draw something. TA DA! There was my dog! It seemed this dog that lived in my head and heart was never going to come along. So, I put my hopes and dreams about a dog on the back burner and went on with my life. Finally, when I was 26, I was flipping through a magazine and saw the cutest little puppy and instantly knew I wanted a dog like this one. It was a little ball of golden fur, it’s name was Buff, that’s it! That would be my dog’s name. I cut the picture out of the magazine and carried it in my wallet and when any one would care to listen, I would pull out my picture and show them my dog, Buff. When they would say, “That’s your dog?” (because they could tell it was a magazine picture), I would just say, “Not yet, but she’s going to be someday!” I really believed that someday this little ball of golden fluff would come to me. I knew this dog in the picture didn’t resemble my dog that I had drawn my whole life, but I would be content with my magazine dog “Buff”.
I showed my magazine dog to my best friend and she agreed that it was a cute dog and decided she should get a dog just like that, too! And, she named her pretend dog “Snuggy”. We planned how Snuggy and Buff would be best friends and look just alike -- it would be so fun!
After about a year of carrying my magazine picture around, I went to apply for a new job. In the middle of my job interview this black dog with really long hair and a severe under bite, jumped up on the couch. Now remember, I am a dog lover, but I thought this was the ugliest dog I had ever seen. Still I reached out to pet her. SHE BIT ME!
Dogs don’t bite me! They love me -- they know I get them. They KNOW I’m a dog lover. When she bit me, she was scolded by her owner, “Buff! Stop it! Get Down!”
What? This ugliest dog that just bit me is named Buff? I wanted this job, but could I be around this dog day after day that had the name of my dream dog? Wouldn’t that just ruin it for me? Plus, who names a black dog “Buff”?
Later, after I got the job and Buff bit me day after day, I asked, “Why did you name her Buff?” Here’s the explanation I got -- “when she was a puppy she ate everything just like she was at a buffet, so I named her Buff. :)
So, have you figured it out? This Buff was meant for me. She eventually became my dog and I ended up loving her so much and thinking she was the cutest dog in the world. She became my best friend -- just not in the package I expected. But, whenever I would ask God to send Buff to me someday, I had only used her name. I hadn’t described her. I ended up getting the perfect dog for me. We had many, many great years together. She lived to be 17 1/2. I believe we will be together again someday. Boy, do I look forward to seeing her! Oh, and guess what? Snuggy ended up coming along too -- only she looked just like magazine dog! Snuggy and Buff did become best friends. So, I did end up with everything I hoped for.Can anyone tell me why it highlighted all these words and how not to do that?
Thank you! :)
